Why Family Photos Matter
There are so many decisions we make in the early years of family life. What pram to buy. What school to send them to. What to cook for dinner… again (and again!). Amidst the chaos, it’s easy to let something like booking a family photo session slide down the list. You tell yourself, “We’ll do it next season” or “Maybe once things settle down.” But here’s the quiet truth I’ve seen time and time again:
No one ever regrets taking the photos.
But they often regret not taking them.
These moments are already on their way to becoming memories
Your baby will never be this little again. That missing front tooth, the way their arms wrap tightly around your neck, the quiet pride in your eyes as you watch your children run and play…these are not small things. They are everything. And they pass far too quickly.
Photos hold time still for just a moment. They give you something to come back to. A way to remember how it felt.
Because as much as we swear we’ll never forget, we do. And that’s okay. That’s what photographs are for.

You don’t have to “feel ready” to create lasting memories
One of the biggest things that holds people back is the feeling that they need to look a certain way or have everything perfectly organised before booking. But can I let you in on something?
The beauty is in what’s real.
You don’t need to lose weight, or wait for your toddler to be less wild, or find a moment when everything is calm. The magic lives in the way you love each other, not in posed perfection.
In fact, some of my favourite images are the ones where a baby is crying, or a mum is mid-laugh with her hair flying, or a grandparent is gently holding a tiny hand. These are the ones that make you feel. And those are the ones that last.
I remember one session where a little girl was in tears just as we were about to start…it had been a big emotional week for her. Instead of panicking, her parents just wrapped her up close, and the resulting photos, raw, honest, and full of love, are some of the family’s most treasured images. And when she looks back at the images, she sees all the love her parents have for her, within that vulnerable moment. It’s these real moments that tell the truest story. To me, this is exactly why family photos matter.

Photographs become part of your family story
Professional portraits not just for now. They’re for your children to hold in years to come. For them to see how deeply they were loved, how you looked at them, how they looked at each other. Yes, you can take the photos on your phone, but how often are you actually then in the photos too, in an authentic way that shows the beauty of the moment with your family?
The photos we capture together become the pages of your legacy; framed on walls, tucked into albums, pulled out at milestones and shared over cups of tea. I often find my own boys flipping through our albums that we keep out on the coffee table. They matter more than we realise in the moment.

The session itself can be a gift
More than just the photos, the session is a chance to slow down, connect and be fully present. It’s one of the rare times in life when the to-do list doesn’t matter. When the only thing on your schedule is to hold each other a little closer. Laugh a little louder. Be in the moment, together.
So whether you’re celebrating a milestone, welcoming a new baby, or simply want to document your family as you are right now, please don’t wait. You’ll never regret taking the time to deeply connect with the people you love most.
Because life doesn’t wait. But you can press pause… just for a moment…and hold onto it forever.
