The start of your baby’s journey is such an incredible time to photograph… from the glow of pregnancy to meeting your newborn baby. That’s why I love offering bump to baby photography Sydney families can treasure, capturing everything from that glow of pregnancy to those first snuggles.
When Rebecca first got in touch with me, she was just weeks away from meeting her baby girl, Kaia (they had the name picked long before, isn’t it a gorgeous one!).
We met on a sunny afternoon at her local beach in Bundeena, a place that already felt like part of her baby’s story.
She told me she wanted to remember this time, not just for herself, but for Kaia too.
“We weren’t sure if Kaia would be our only baby, and I wanted to remember every part of the journey. It felt so special carrying her, and I wanted something we could look back on together one day.”
There’s something so special about hearing from another mum who’s been at the same stage as you are, so I asked Rebecca if she would share more about why she decided to book both maternity and newborn sessions, and her experience with me.
Why Maternity Photos Mattered to Rebecca

“I wanted to remember the anticipation, the excitement, and that quiet bond you have before you even meet your baby. Even before she was born, I felt deeply connected to her — feeling her little kicks, imagining her little face and personality made it feel so real.”
Her maternity photography session in the Sutherland Shire was relaxed and personal, part of her bump to baby photography Sydney journey….just her and her partner hanging out the beach they love.
“I loved that it was at our beach. Kaia really is our little Bundeena baby. It was such a beautiful, relaxed experience. I felt comfortable and celebrated, and Sarah made it easy to just enjoy the moment without feeling awkward in front of the camera.”
Why She Booked Both Maternity & Newborn Sessions

Rebecca knew from the beginning she didn’t want to miss either chapter.
“Pregnancy feels like it goes on forever, but the newborn stage disappears in the blink of an eye. Having both sessions meant we could tell the complete story, from bump to baby, and I know those memories will only grow more meaningful over time.”
It also took the pressure off during those first few weeks.
“It meant I didn’t have to worry about finding a photographer in those first days when everything is a blur. Sarah already knew us, and we already felt comfortable with her.”
And because both sessions were with with me, there’s a natural thread of consistency between them, despite the maternity shoot being outdoors and her newborn photos being in the studio.
“There’s a lovely flow between the two — the style, the feeling, the way the photos tell our story from bump to baby.”
Newborn Memories with Kaia: Bump to Baby Photography Sydney

Those early days were full of love, but they were also a blur.
“She was so tiny, with the softest hair and the sweetest little expressions. I never want to forget how she curls into me, like she still remembers being in the womb.”
Looking back at her maternity photos with Kaia in her arms was an emotional moment.
“It felt surreal, like I was holding the dream I had been carrying for all those months. Those maternity photos became even more special once I had her in my arms.”
Today, those images are part of their family’s story. The images sit side by side, a true reflection of bump to baby photography Sydney families love, from the glow of pregnancy flowing into the gentle moments of life with a newborn.
“They’re priceless. They’re a reminder of how far we’ve come, and of such a fleeting, precious time in our lives.”

Advice from a First-Time Mum Who’s Been There
When I asked Rebecca what she’d say to a first-time mum who’s wondering whether to book both, she didn’t hesitate.
“Do it. You’ll never regret having too many memories, but you might regret the moments you didn’t capture.”
And she’s certain she would have regretted not having them.
“These photos are woven into our family’s story — they’re the beginning of Kaia’s journey and a part of mine as a mother. You can’t ever go back to those moments once they’re gone.”
